As an artist fitting in to a category seems to be a prerequisite. The pressure is on to define and delineate your place in the art world. It can feel claustrophobic and stifling if there isn’t a movement or style to fit into.
My own process fits well within the intuitive art category. I rely on my inner feelings and emotions for inspiration. Employing instincts instead of concept drawings and preplanned ideas.
For me sculpture is an organic process. I feel a particular direction of movement and then create that line and respond to the energy that the line suggests. Using this approach I can unearth inner experiences and explore emotions and memories without a preoccupation with the final product.
The fact that the result draws heavily on realism is in direction opposition to an intuitive approach but my method and origin come within often from past memories. This juxtaposition of intuitive with realism resonates with my science background and love of creativity.
